Dr. Garth Dalwin Hutton, age 64, of Winter Haven, Florida, passed away on Saturday, August 9, 2025, in Detroit, Michigan—the very day he celebrated his birthday, a final testament to his strength and spirit.
Born on August 9, 1961, in Thompson Town, Clarendon, Jamaica, West Indies, Dr. Hutton later migrated to Toronto, Canada, in the 1980s. He began his professional journey as a delivery driver for UPS, where he worked diligently and rose to the position of Supervisor. In the 1990s, he relocated to Florida and transitioned into a career in healthcare, starting as a Staff Nurse. His passion for service and leadership led him to hold several prominent roles, including Nursing Director, Instructor, Supervisor, and Campus Director. Dr. Hutton ultimately earned his Doctorate and fulfilled a lifelong dream by establishing his own elder care business.
He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 37 years, Odette Hutton; his children: Andrae Hutton, Dr. Gardette Hutton, Ogeeda Vargas (husband Luis), Gareth Hutton, and Dr. Ogarth Hutton; eight cherished grandchildren; his mother, Ms. Eslyn Walker; step-mother: Ms. Daisy Hutton-Stone; sisters: Audrey, Janet, Judith, Karlene, Keisha, Paulette, and Pete-Gaye; brothers: Carl, Dave, Devon, Garfield, Mikey, Sheldon, and Tony —and a host of extended family members and friends who will miss him deeply.
A funeral service to celebrate Dr. Hutton's life will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Haven Worship Center, 1835 Overlook Dr., Winter Haven, FL 33884. Interment will follow at Rolling Hills Cemetery, 4810 Tilden Rd., Winter Haven, FL 33881.
